| Subject: Detest (Swe) - Thundersteel [EP] (1990) Tue 9 Nov 2010 - 4:07 | |
| - Spoiler:
History: Detest was formed in 1988 with members sprung out of band Coma. Detest was mainly a garageband and only played live once in 1990 at Skövde Stadsteater. In the summer of 1991 Micke met with Finn Zierler and the band Twilight was born. Soon after, the members of Detest was included in the first Twilight rehearsals going on recording it's first demo "The edge".
About the record: it's a hard limited one (only 300 copies) and it was recorded at Studio Hönshuset (translates to Studio Chicken house) between January and April 1990. The first track "Thundersteel" are one of the most epic tunes I have heard from Sweden, reminds me a lot of Medieval Steel's self titled masterpiece! If that's not enough, get ready for the second track "Chains of Hell", it starts with a little guitar intro but will soon kick off with some heavy riffs and bloody fantastic vocals and lyrics; "Side by side with Satan, on they ride towards hell, taking with us lost souls, deadly screams as we enter his lair" yeah I guess this is nothing for the christian metallers out there. Then it's time to turn the record for the B-Side and the song "Cold Steel Tears Your Flesh", well it's not much to say about it, a great song which follows almost the same pattern musically as Chains of Hell just a bit thrashier. Next up "Steinhurst's Chainsaws", which I think was recorded in their sleep.. this is a very slow doomish (a bit boring) track that could have been awesome if they had speeded up it a bit. Last track is a outro called "Oblivion" which is a 30 second sample from the movie "Dogs of War".
Summary: A great obscure Swedish EP with a very interesting mix of genres, not many records begin with epic heavy / power to later end with thrash and doomish metal. 300 copies made and it's rare as hell, almost impossible to find these days (guess it was hard even back in the 90s).
